UX/UI audit

Where the product loses users, before the budget goes on more development

Another round of development costs more than checking whether the product solves the right problem. In a UX/UI audit of an app, a B2B system or a complex digital product we show where the experience breaks down and what to fix first.

Let's talk about an audit

When is a UX/UI audit worth it?

The product "sort of works", but it is losing users or not meeting its goal.

Or a roadmap, a redesign or a larger build is coming up and budget has to be committed for months.

A redesign that will have to be justified to the board deserves a firmer basis than the opinion of a team assessing its own work.

Who is a UX/UI audit for?

  • A B2B SaaS product where a new user waits too long for the first benefit or does not understand the features
  • A complex B2B system (dashboards, configurators, multi-step processes) where poor UX generates costs and support tickets
  • A Product Owner or head of product in a small or mid-sized company needs an independent list of priorities before a roadmap, redesign or build
  • A medtech or healthcare product where usability, accessibility (WCAG) and well-organised data are critical

How it works

How does a UX/UI audit work step by step?

  1. 01

    Understanding

Together with the team we establish the product's business goal, its context and who the user really is.

  2. 02

    Diagnosis

We review user journeys, interface consistency, accessibility (WCAG) and information architecture, meaning how content and navigation are organised. We set this against quantitative data (analytics, funnels, session recordings) and qualitative data (interviews, support tickets, user feedback), and a comparison with similar products.

  3. 03

    Prioritisation

We rank findings by their impact on users and the business, and separate quick fixes from strategic changes.

  4. 04

    Recommendations and roadmap

We hand over the report, walk the team through it and turn it into an action plan. Result: an improvement roadmap ready to implement or hand over to the team.

After the audit it is clear what to fix first and why, before the next stage of development begins. Three things remain: a UX/UI report with observations and recommendations ranked by business impact, a walkthrough session and an improvement roadmap.

„We wholeheartedly recommend Squares. We have worked together for years and they are one of those partners you can rely on 100%. Among many different projects, they built our company website with an advanced integration with an external database. They do not stop at the code.”

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a UX/UI audit?

A UX/UI audit is an independent assessment of a digital product that shows where users get lost and what to fix first. At Squares it covers user journeys, interface consistency, information architecture and accessibility (WCAG), and in the larger packages also Hotjar behavioural data and a benchmark against similar products. Every screen is scored from 0 to 100 on five dimensions.

How much does a UX/UI audit cost?

A UX/UI audit costs from PLN 4,500 net. There are three packages: Focus from PLN 4,500 net for one area or a smaller product, Full from PLN 8,000 net for a complete app, B2B system or SaaS, and Strategic from PLN 15,000 net or a custom quote for complex and critical products. Scope and price are fixed, and the package is chosen on a call.

How long does a UX audit of an app take?

A UX audit of an app takes from one week to four weeks, depending on the package. Focus takes 1 week, Full 2 weeks and Strategic 3-4 weeks, because it includes user testing and an in-depth accessibility review. The delivery date is known before the start, together with the fixed price.

What does a UX/UI audit report contain?

A UX/UI audit report contains observations, a score for every screen reviewed and recommendations, each with a priority. It comes with a walkthrough session with the team and an improvement roadmap that separates quick fixes from strategic changes. The roadmap can be implemented straight away or handed over to an in-house team.

What data is a UX/UI audit based on?

The audit combines quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data, meaning analytics, funnels and session recordings, shows where users drop off. Qualitative data, meaning interviews, support tickets and feedback, explains why. If the company has no qualitative data, we run user interviews before the audit or during it.

When does a UX audit make sense, and when does it not?

A UX audit makes sense when the product works but is losing users, or when a roadmap, a redesign or a larger build is coming and the budget has to be committed for months. An audit does not answer what to build when there is no product yet. In that case the right starting point is a Product workshop or Prototype & MVP.

How is a UX audit different from a product workshop and a consultation?

A UX audit assesses an existing product, a Product workshop settles what to build, and Consulting gives an opinion on a single decision. The audit ends with a prioritised report and an improvement roadmap, the workshop with a written scope, and the consultation with conclusions from a call billed at PLN 250 net per hour. When the starting point is unclear, we settle the choice on the first call.

How is a UX/UI audit different from a standard usability review?

A usability review ends with a list of interface bugs; a UX/UI audit ends with decisions. The audit starts from the product's business goal and from who the user is, and finishes with priorities and a roadmap. The list of defects is one of the appendices, and every finding is rated by its impact on users and the business.

Does a UX audit cover accessibility (WCAG)?

Yes, every audit package checks accessibility against WCAG: Focus at a basic level, Full completely, Strategic in depth. Accessibility is also one of the five dimensions on which every screen is scored. The European Accessibility Act has been enforced since June 2025, so the report also shows which accessibility gaps to close first.

Does a UX audit cover medtech products and systems with sensitive data?

Yes, the audit covers medtech products and systems where an error carries operational and compliance risk. Squares has designed and built, among others, the DermAI app and panel for dermatologists and an app that works with a dermatoscope. The Strategic package is intended for such products, with an in-depth accessibility review and user testing, and a light NDA is signed before any paid work begins.

What happens after a UX/UI audit?

After the audit the team implements the roadmap itself or commissions the changes from Squares. The audit is the Diagnosis stage in the Diagnosis, Design, Development, Optimisation process, so the next step is UX/UI design and Development of the recommended changes by the same team. Thanks to the screen scores, the next version of the product can be compared with the result before the changes.
