Case study
A mole tracking app with a portable dermatoscope
The client wanted patients to be able to keep an eye on skin lesions easily, wherever and whenever. We designed a mole tracking app that works with a portable dermatoscope, plus a web reception panel. The devices are sold through a shop operating in 6 countries.

We designed a mobile app and a web reception panel for our client. In the app, users keep a history of their skin lesions, find a specialist nearby and book an online consultation, and they can buy the dermatoscope in a shop that operates in 6 countries.

Challenge: making skin lesion tracking simple for patients
Every year millions of people notice skin lesions that may signal health problems. The client wanted monitoring these lesions to be simple and possible anywhere, at any time.
The app works with a portable dermatoscope, so it had to bring together the device, the user's medical data and access to a doctor. Some users aren't used to technology, and the accuracy of the analysis depends on the quality of the photos.
Simple for the patient on the surface, with photos and data underneath that allow a reliable assessment of the lesion.

Solution: from a photo of a mole to a talk with a dermatologist
The app starts with a medical questionnaire, then guides the user from a photo of a lesion to a conversation with a dermatologist.
In the questionnaire, users list previously diagnosed conditions, regular medication and allergies, so the analysis takes their health into account. Photos taken with the dermatoscope attachment go into their personal history, labelled with the date. The dashboard shows changes over time, and the app runs an initial AI analysis of them.
Specialist and consultation
The finder shows the nearest dermatology clinics and doctors, with reviews and ratings from other patients and directions from maps. Users can book an online consultation with a dermatologist and arrange an in-person appointment during the call. This matters for people who live far from medical facilities.
Micro-commerce
The devices are sold through a simple shop integrated with Stripe, operating in 6 countries. We tailored the interface to customers in different markets, and the shop can be extended to new ones.

Results: lesion history, analysis and a route to a doctor on the phone
Users have the history of their skin lesions, an initial analysis and a path to a dermatologist in a single app.
The devices are sold in 6 countries, and the shop is ready for new markets. The app was covered by Newsweek.
