AI product design

An AI feature only works when people trust it

A model can be accurate and the feature still goes unused, because nobody knows when to believe the result. We design how the result, the uncertainty and the error are shown, so the feature can actually be used.

When is AI product design worth it?

The team is adding an AI-based feature to the product or building a whole product on it.

The result can be uncertain, and the user has to know when to trust it.

A Product Owner who answers to the board for this feature's budget needs evidence that people will use it before production code is written.

In healthcare, accessibility requirements and responsibility for errors come on top.

Who is AI product design for?

  • An existing B2B or SaaS product is getting an AI feature and someone has to decide how its result is shown
  • The team is building a new AI-based product and wants to test it with users before the build
  • A medical or health product in which the user must understand where a result comes from

How it works

How does AI product design work step by step?

  1. 01

We understand the problem and the data

We establish which decision or task the AI is to take over, what data it works on and what happens when it gets things wrong.

  2. 02

    We design the interaction

We design how results, uncertainty and errors are shown, so users know when they can trust an answer.

  3. 03

    Prototype

We build a prototype that can be shown to users before any production code is written.

  4. 04

    Validation

We test the prototype with users and revise the design before the feature goes into the build.

After the project the AI feature has an interface that users understand and trust, so they actually use it.

How much does AI product design cost?

from PLN 8,000 net

The first stage costs from PLN 8,000 net. We price per project, for an agreed scope. We work in stages: the first covers defining what the AI feature should do and a prototype, and later stages are priced after it.

A call about the feature and the data, and an initial estimate, carry no obligation. After each stage, starting with the prototype, the team decides whether to commission the next. We reply within a few hours.

Let's talk about AI

„A great collaboration for over 2 years. The team is professional, punctual and genuinely committed to the development of the project. The app is polished and the communication is excellent. Highly recommended.”

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does AI product design involve?

AI product design means designing the interface of features built on artificial intelligence so that the user knows when a result can be trusted. It covers how the result, the uncertainty and the error are shown. Squares establishes which decision or task the AI should take over, designs the interaction, builds a prototype and tests it with users.

How much does AI product design cost?

AI product design is priced per project, for an agreed scope. The first stage covers defining what the AI feature should do and a prototype, and we quote it after a conversation about the feature and the data. Later stages are priced separately, and after each one the team decides whether to order the next.

How is AI design different from regular UX?

In a regular interface the same action gives the same result, whereas an AI result can be uncertain. That is why the interface of an AI feature shows the level of confidence, the source of the answer and how to correct a mistake. A model can be accurate and the feature still goes unused when nobody knows when to believe the result.

What is the outcome of an AI feature design project?

The outcome is an AI feature interface that users understand and trust, plus a prototype tested with users before any production code is written. This gives the Product Owner evidence that people will use the feature before the budget goes into the build. Changes after testing are made while the work is still in design.

When is it worth designing an AI feature before building it?

Design before the build makes sense when an existing B2B or SaaS product is getting an AI feature, or when an entire new product is based on AI. It is especially needed in medical and health products, where the user must understand where a result comes from and someone is accountable for an error.

How long does it take to design an AI feature?

The time depends on the scope of the feature and on the data the AI works with. The work has four stages: understanding the problem and the data, interaction design, prototype and validation with users. We agree the date for the first stage, which ends with a prototype, together with its quote, after a conversation about the feature and the data.

Does AI feature design account for accessibility and regulated-industry requirements?

Yes, we design to WCAG and the European Accessibility Act, enforced since June 2025. For medical products we document how the interface shows the uncertainty of a result. In healthcare there is also accountability for errors, so the user sees where an answer comes from and how to correct it.

Which AI products has Squares designed?

Squares designed and built the ProseCaptain AI assistant, which runs for two clients: on the Tropokolagen.pl website and in the Daily Effect app. In the first it answers product questions based on the brand's materials; in the second it took over users' repetitive questions. ProseCaptain is also a content editor in which AI writes from the company's knowledge and a person edits the text.

How is AI product design different from the AI prototype to production service?

AI product design happens before the code, whereas AI prototype to production starts from code that already exists. The first service produces an interaction design and a prototype for user testing. In the second we review a prototype built with AI tools and bring it up to production standard.

What does an AI feature project require from the client's team, and is it covered by an NDA?

We need to know what the AI should take over, what data it works with and what happens when it gets things wrong. The conversation concerns data and product plans, so a light NDA is signed before the paid stage begins. We run the project remotely, and later stages can be ordered under a framework agreement.
